Literacy
Our team of educators are all trained in structured literacy: Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) and / or Orton-Gillingham (OG). Our approach is based on research known as the Science of Reading and focuses on the five essential components of reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Our lessons are individually planned, explicit, structured, systematic and cumulative. Structured literacy is an evidence-based approach for students experiencing difficulties with literacy, and with dyslexia.
Numeracy
The Orton-Gillingham approach to mathematics provides instruction that is explicit, structured and multisensory. Maths concepts are broken down into smaller, more manageable parts. The use of concrete materials, known as manipulatives, provides ‘hands-on’ learning experiences to build solid foundations in maths skills and concepts. This scaffolded and supportive approach promotes positive learning experiences in mathematics.
